Happy April Fools Day
Written by Mike Macauley at 4:15 am 10 Comments
As many of you have noticed, Shur'tugal did not escape April Fools Day untouched this year. Continuing in our yearly tradition of pranking our visitors in either a subtle or not-so-subtle way, we turned the entire website bright pink and added a Hello Kitty twist to the website's theme. Thankfully, this was only a temporary prank and everything has been reverted back to normal. We'd also like to let everyone know that the announcement of closing our fan fiction website was also a joke. Keep reading if you missed the prank or want to see some of our past pranks! Written by Mike Macauley at 3:42 am 50 Comments
What's the best thing to do while we wait for Book 4, you ask? Submerge yourself in more awesome fantasy, of course! We've put a lot of hard work into compiling the ultimate library of fantasy and sci-fi books, movies and TV shows that fans of Inheritance can enjoy during the wait for Book 4. All of the nearly six hundred books, movies and TV shows in our library have been recommended either by our staff or by fellow Inheritance fans.

Our entire recommendations library includes: Inheritance Books, Inheritance Gear and Merchandise, Eragon Movie and Eragon Games, "Other Fantasy Books With Dragons", Recommended Fantasy/Sci-fi Books, Recommended Fantasy/Sci-fi Movies, Recommended Fantasy/Sci-fi TV Shows, and Advice Books for Aspiring Writers. All purchases go directly through Amazon.com, the internet's largest book store, saving you an average of 25% on all merchandise (helping to support Shur'tugal at the same time).

Our new library and store is everything you could want during the wait for Book 4. Miss an Inheritance product (including swords, various book editions, games, cards, shirts, and posters)? Need a new book to read? Now you have access to all that and more, all in one convenient location. Visit the library here!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. FOUNDER
Written by Robert Cox at 8:42 pm 23 Comments
I'd like to take a moment and, on behalf of all the staff members of this site, wish our fearless leader, Mike Macauley a Happy Birthday.

Back in 2004, Mike was only 14 when the site opened, now he's turning the ripe old age of 20. Mike probably isn't the most thrilled that people even mention his birthday, but we're going to do it anyway! We appreciate everything he's done for the site and we wish him many many more years to come.

If you so wish, post your birthday wishes for Mike in the comments. And if you wish to see Mike showing off his New York City pride the day after the Brisingr release, check after the break. Continue reading...

Happy 5th Anniversary, Shurtugal! New design!
Written by Mike Macauley at 9:11 am 46 Comments
Today, Shur’tugal officially celebrates its five year anniversary. Amazingly, a project started by a bored-but-excited fourteen-year-old over Christmas break evolved into something much more: an amazing, dedicated community of tens of thousands of fans across the world.

The success of Shur’tugal was never planned or anticipated. It was, and still is, the group effort of an enormous team of volunteers both past and present, along with support from a number of friends. Shur’tugal would not be what it is today if it wasn’t for the hundreds of hours of work that our dedicated team has put in.

We chose today as the day to launch our best re-design and re-branding effort yet due to the importance of the date as our website's fifth anniversary. The site now features a new, sleek look in easy-to-read fonts, shapes and colors. The website functions normally in all major browsers and all default screen resolutions. A number of changes and additions have been made, all which can be read about in detail on our “Guide to Shur’tugal’s New Changes”! Be sure to continue reading for a list of thank yous and more information on the changes to Shurtugal.com! Continue reading...

The Future of Shur'tugal
Written by Mike Macauley at 7:27 am 1 Comments
Many of you comment and email to ask us - what's next for Shur'tugal? With a good amount of time to wait before we even know the name or release date of Book 4, what are we going to do with Shur'tugal? There certainly is a lot of room for expansion and improvement, and after a good amount of brainstorming, we're ready to announce our tentative plans for the future of Shurtugal.com.

We have compiled all of our thoughts, ideas and goals into one easy-to-read blog entry on our Development Blog. Our main focus is on making the main page of Shur'tugal more relevant, up-to-date and captivating by focusing our attention largely on news, commentary, opinion columns and more. We're also discussing our plans for a content shift to Shur'tugal's Inheritance Wikipedia as well as unveiling plans for Shur'tugal's sister site, a fantasy book and movie review and news source.

So we invite all of you, our visitors, to read our blog entry and contribute your thoughts, feedback, constructive criticism and ideas to help us build the future of Shur'tugal to be what you want it to be.

You can read the full blog entry at Shurtugal.com/Blog.

Our Last Server Improvement
Written by Mike Macauley at 5:37 am 0 Comments
Why the lack of updates and the locked comments? Shur'tugal has been undergoing its final transition to a new server to support our main website. The Shur'tugal home page is now powered by its own website, with its subsidiaries (message boards, fan fiction, media server) on a separate server to improve performance.

What does this mean for you? Faster load time, less down time in the future, and an over-all better experience at Shur'tugal! If you're seeing this message, you're seeing our new server. Commenting on the top news posts is disabled until Sunday, November 23th to prevent the loss of news posts. In the mean time, we encourage users to head over to Inheritance Forums to discuss Inheritance!

Our interview with Christopher Paolini went incredibly well! Fans submitted over four hundred questions, all which were considered. Unfortunately, we had to widdle the questions down to the best twenty-five or so, all which had a shot in the interview. We hope to be posting the interview in the next day or two. Stay tuned!

In the mean time, we'd love to offer everyone a chance at a sneak peak at the future plans for Shur'tugal as well as to offer you the unique role of being "the Decider". We've outlined our future plans in various threads and are asking you guys, our fans and visitors, to offer feedback and input - help us shape the future of Shur'tugal. You can contribute here.
