I dont think roran, orrin, nasuada, or katrina, or orik could the rider and that would make them immortal. If roran or katrina became a rider then the other would grow old without the other which is why eragon doesnt really want to marry a human. Orrin, nasuada, and orik couldnt be it just for the fact that they all have positions of power and if they were to become immortal then that would put all of them in the same position as galby which is why nasuada and orrin said eragon wouldnt be a good replacement as king

Because Eragon and Saphira agree in Brisingr (I can’t remember when) that Orrin, if his name comes up in the process choosing a new ruler for Alegaesia, should not succeed Galbatorix. Also, Nasuada said that she’d entertained the idea of marrying Orrin for the sake of convenience, but that the war does not allow for such girlish desires. I don’t think that Orrin will be the next ruler of Alegaesia and I don’t think that he and Nasuada will get married.

That’s a possibility… I guess I’d never considered that before. But where is it hinted that Eragon will need to train the next rider? I know that when when he and Saphira revisit Ellesmera, Oromis and Glaedr decide to accompany them Eragon asks who will train the next dragon rider, to which Oromis replies, “the responsibility will fall to you and Saphira to train the next rider.” This is only true assuming that Oromis and Glaedr know the future. I don’t know… I still think it’ll be Arya. Also, if Eragon has to train the knew rider at the same time as trying to assist the Varden’s burrowing into the empire, the new rider will be receiving an extremely limited education. Eragon will, to a certain degree, be neglecting his responsibilities to the Varden by spending his days training with his new apprentice. For the sake of convenience (which, admittedly, is not what Paolini has always gone for) I’m thinking that he makes the next rider Arya.

Arya will be the next rider – at the end of Brisingr she becomes a ‘Shadeslayer’, like Eragon, They are both immortal, so why not both riders? Also, Eragon + Arya and Saphira + Arya’s dragon (probably male if it is the one on the cover)

I think we’re asking the wrong questions here. Something that didn’t occur to me until just now is that no matter who the last dragon egg hatches for, greenie will still have to grow up into a decently sized dragon before he is of any use to the Varden. Unless it is somebody who is already extensively practiced in the ways of magic and weaponry, both the rider and dragon will have pretty minimal roles to play in the war. Unless, of course, the elves resort to the perverted practice of accelerating greenie’s growth – as Galbatorix did with Thorn – so as to make him a formidable enough opponent to confront his enemies. For these reasons, I would be very fucking surprised if the new rider turned out to be anybody other than Arya, who is already proficient in the ways of magic (green) and weaponry.

if you remember in book 3 there was a couple of girls passing by the camp and solembum spoke to them but they were in a hurry to leave to get away from something and also when eragon was at the dragons nest he stumbles on a green dragon eggs shell that probably isn’t relevant but it maybe. theres a good chance that greenie hatched to one of the girls in that group and they will be brought back in the next book but im routing for arya thats just me

  I know! haha, I’m so curious to find out what Paolini has in store for those two women! However, I don’t know how I feel about the idea of one of them being destined to be the next rider. I realize the significance of Angela reading their fortunes with the Dragon knucklebones, and of Solembum speaking to them, but they’ve done this for others in the past. This only happens when the somebody that Solembum talks to has “an interesting future/past” or when they “will have a large role to play in shaping Alegaesia”. In light of the events in Brisingr, they will undoubtedly have a role to play, but I don’t know… That’s just not the impression I got from them. This is a TOTAL shot in the dark, but maybe they’re the ones who accompany Eragon to Uru-Baen on a mission to extract the last dragon egg from Galbatorix’s possession. I honestly hope that neither of them will be the next rider. haha, you’re right, I’m rooting for Arya, or just an Elf rider in general. This is also assuming that the Varden or the Elves are successful in stealing the egg at all! Paolini might’ve decided to make a cruel twist to the story in which the last egg hatches for another one of Galbatroix’s evil minions… That would suck, but Paolini’s been known to pull that kind of shit.

    Hey, you never know. What if someone stole the egg earlier, and he put in all that crap about it not hatching yet? Maybe the egg is already hatched and had some time to grow. That would throw a whole new curve ball at all of us. But I don’t know if that would happen. I kind of wonder if he did make the egg hatch for an evil person. That would mean 3 vs. 1. I mean giant army with 3 dragon riders, vs. small army with 1 dragon rider and a ton of elves. And maybe (but I’m hoping this one doesn’t happen) the egg doesn’t hatch at all. Maybe the cover just is to throw you off and the egg doesn’t hatch for a while, and then, couple years later, he starts a new series, with the egg hatching, and then someone (dragon rider) from somewhere else, cause he never said there weren’t other dragons other places (at least I don’t think) came and laid more eggs. I mean CP could go a lot of different directions with how he ended the last book…

We won’t know anything for sure (apart from the list of confirmed facts) until it comes out… GAHH! I can’t wait until November!
      I think that what you said about there being a ratio of 3 vs. 1 is much more likely than the possibility that the egg has already hatched. But I think that Greenie will definitely make some sort of appearance in Inheritance, even if it’s just in a significant piece of history behind a major discovery that Eragon makes. Again, just speculating. hahaha

I doubt Roran will be king of Alagaesia. I think that Nasuada has a better chance. And Roran doesn’t have a very high likelihood of being the next Rider, as Katrina said when she dressed him for battle. And unless Chris wants to have Katrina be all “OMG”-y, and take back her words (which could be probable, as he has done so before) Roran won’t be a Rider. Besides, he doesn’t want to be a Rider anyways.

It can’t be Orik, he’s a dwarf. When the elves created the spell it was just for them, then they added humans. Dwarves aren’t part of the spell so Orik can’t be the next rider.

I am fairly sure that the dragon rider is going to be Arya. She just is perfect for the role and that would be the ideal thing to do at this point. However, in regard to the Shruikan, we know that (first of all) the final dragon egg is a boy, and probably destined to be Saphira’s mate (second) Shruikan may die, I think he will. Maybe in the end he will give his Eldunari to Eragon and company. I also suspect that Murtagh will either go good or die. Roran, unless a new character is introduced, seems most likely to be the new ruler of Alagaesia.

Also the dragon is the same color as the riders magic and Arya’s magic is green. Also the rider needs to start out strong to be able to help againts the empire. Also in Eragons dream he saw him self and another rider standing together and getting ready to go on a boat that was leaving with the elves. Further more riders share emotions with their dragons and Saphira will must likely fall in love with the green dragon making Eragon and Arya feel more attached to each other. And last but not least Arya is awsome so she will automanicly be the next rider.

think back to book three when Eragon finds Angela using the dragon knucklebones on the older woman “bladesinger” and the young girl who was traveling with her, perhaps the girl is the next rider, CP would not have mentiond them if they were not important for the fourth book and the girl was of similar age to Eragon himself.

incase anyone mentions the noble birth quote from book 1 then here is my counter for that also, Angela calls the older of the two “Bladesinger which to me is a title of great significance, perhaps the older woman is of noble blood and the younger girl is her daughter. I have a theory. In one of CP’s interviews he hinted about a significant event happening in the fourth book. It had to do with a question he was asked. The question delt with the possibility of a Dragon Rider becoming a shade. And the only reason I think it will happen is because when CP was asked the question he said that he wouldn’t comment on it, which means that it was a good question and that an event exactly like it or similar to it will happen in the fourth book, and obviously its of great significance to the plot otherwise why would he not want to comment on it.

i feel its arya whu is the next rider as oromis is dead, the last of elf riders is gone. there is already a human rider(to mention half human and elf) in the form of eragon.orik cannot be a rider as hes a dwarf..its high time that a elf rider comes up to take the place of oromis for the epic battle….plus as saphira is the last female dragon, she needs a mate…which i suppose wld be the green dragon….and if arya is the rider…ultimately it may cum dwn to eragon and arya being mates cz eragon is also immortal now as hes half elf…..arya for sure then!!

christopher paolini is a genius to create such a wonderful read, especially in this age.
there are no books anywhere that are like these, when reading these the amount of information given about it.. its not like your actually reading but more like you are there, inside the story walking/flying across Alageasia in the shoes of whoever is portrayed at the time reading something like this is exhilarating and fun keep up the awsome work Christopher and never let anyone tell you how to write… whens you start listening to critics is when these books stop being you and end up dull and boring, write how you see it and listen to nobody but those who helped with your first book Eragon

Yeah I totally agree with what you are saying. You would have to be blind, stupid or naturally born a critic to say that his work isn’t good, great, fantastic, marvelous,wonderful…you see? I think Trianna will be the next rider. Mostly becuase of her sudden appearance and then dissaperance with eragon as if they had only just met on the battle of the burning plains. Paolini hinted that sourcery will play a big part in the next book whit obviousley relates to Trianna being a sourcerer and then they would go to find the vault of souls perhaps?

It can’t be Angela, In almost every instance, CP has said that its going to be a third egg that hatches the new dragon and it’s mentioned by both Jeod and Brom in the books.

it says people that werent centralized… so that rules out the elf child name vanir or whatever it was… as for the only 2 elves that are younger then he…. i doubt it. someone thats been mentioned before but shied away from the story line alot…. would e one hell of a nasty twist if it ended up being sloan but lets not think about that….perhaps Elva… its a possibility.. and so far the most obvious choice as she’s already dragon marked and magical beyond anything anyone else is.. but im keep thinking before i answer. But back to the rider, it would be too cliched if Arya or Roran were the rider. I mean, He’s already got a “brother” who’s a rider and if Roran was it, that would be a bit too much. Also, I could see how some of you would think Arya would be the rider, but I seriously doubt it. She’s already played a huge roll in these books and if she were to become the rider, it would open no windows for more characters.

I think that it might be hidden in the “Vault of Souls”, the place that the werecat Solembum told Eragon about in the first book during his premonition. SPOILER ALERT!!! I think that Eragon will find a secret cache of eldunari souls like the one Glaedr gave to Eragon in the Vault of Souls and then he will be as powerful as Murtagh, maybe even Galbatorix. Just my opinion, but I’m pretty sure that’s what will happen.

I think the reason he looks that way is that he is young ( see spikes on his head .. they are more like nubs) also I don’t think the new rider will be Roran also the vision eragon has with two people leaving and one grieving I think the grieving one is Murtaugh- I believe Thorn is killed in battle and Murtaugh lives. He is not invited to leave with them as he is the enemy and polluted by Galbatorix , they couldn’t risk it . Well when you think about it, ruffled scales such as that would make an impressive defense against all that would dare to pet you. Seriously though, a sword is probably more likely to be deflected by scales that are pointing in every which direction than by flat scales.

In the first book Eragon has a dream with withtwo people leaving and one person mourning. And there were two dragons circling above the two people. Those two people i think will be Eragon and Arya and the person mourning would be Roran.

Flashback

My bet is that its Eragon and Arya are on the boat, and Murtagh will be the one mourning because 1) Eragon, Arya and their dragons are leaving and 2) Thorn is dead. The only problem I see with this is that I don’t think Murtagh would survive Thorn’s death, weather he goes mad or kills himself, he would have to have a very good reason to live. Roran could be the mourner, but I think he’d be too stoic to cry out… still, could be him, he’s my second choice.

  Murtagh and Nasuada’s relationship, or lack-there-of, is going to be addressed in the fourth book, is if that mourner /is/ Murtagh, it is very likely that he found reason to live because of Nasuada.
  
  As for if Thorn dies, and the connection killing Murtagh; that’s not necessarily true. Since their bond was forced beyond all they could imagine due to dark magic they might not be as connected as they should be considering Thorn is still supposed to be a toddler/child dragon.

If you look at book 3 cover and this cover you will see that both dragons have a “streamer” type of scales on their neck. So Since Gleadr was matched with an elven companion then this one must also be matched with an Elf! Could be Arya, Queen, possibly the one of the two children elves from book 3.

Comparing this cover to the other ones, I see a certain resemblance. But also many differences. Yes, different thorn positioning, different size and sharpness. Sapphira and Thorns thorns seem to be longer and sharper. Also, some say that his scales are bent and shriveled because of age. Others say they are like that because hes young. Random place for Inheritance predictions, but here goes:

The green dragon is old. I just don’t see an egg hatching for another rider and playing ANY kind of role in the last book. There isn’t enough story to allow for the new dragon to grow up. Either the green dragon is the last of the wild dragons or it survived the death of its rider and went into hiding.

Eragon will discover his true name (obviously) and it will have something to do with fire. Maybe something like “fire of the revolution”?

The rock of Kuthian will either be the home of a vast amount of elundari (which I have come to doubt) or the hiding place of the green dragon.

Galbatorix will find the name of the ancient language, but he will be defeated anyway. I think Eragon will defeat him, but it also may be that Murtagh will change his true name and slay the dark king.

After Galbatorix is slain, Nasuada/Orrin will banish all magic users from Alagaesia, prompting Eragon to leave with Arya. (Though I think it would be brave of Paolini to kill Arya in this final book)

As for Greenie being old- Eragon (the book) took place over a six month period, in other words the amount of time it took for Saphira to breath fire. If CP wanted, he could find a way to halt the Varden’s march, such as the onset of winter or another emergency. That would give Greeni the time needed to mature.

Let’s analyze this closely.

I could tell Glaedr was old because he
1. Had bent scales.
2. Had dull neck spikes.
3. Had a beard.

This one fulfills the first two of those requirements. It could just be that that’s the way his scales are, but it’s a rather dramatic change from the other three pictures. But then, look at Saphira and Thorn’s neck spikes: long and sharp. This dragon’s closely resemble Glaedr’s. Therefore, my official guess is that this is an old dragon, probably not the one that hatches from the last dragon egg. Then again, I can’t know anything for sure until I read the book.

We dont really know where the last dragon is as its not been spcifically metioned in the three books. My guess is that the last dragon egg has already hatched…for Arya. Lets look at the evidence. Firstly Arya’s magic is green. secondally she is always sad and depressed when away from Du Weldunverden which is probably where her dragon is. Also when Eragon was trying to get to saphira on the dragons nesting place, after she had a fight with Glaedr he stepped on the remains of a broken GREEN dragon egg. But i do not know why she has not revealed the prescence of her dragon to Eragon or the Varden. Also she and Saphira get along very well, Saphira first breathed fire while riding Arya and also she has a dragon tatto thing on her back.

It is… disappointing somehow. Even if I recognize the style of the previous cover, this dragon looks odd. Like, malformed, kinda scary even, maybe because of the color, or the paper scales… Also, the nose changed since the first book, and why would this dragon be that BIG ? I mean, the Vardens does not have the egg YET ! Even if they found it in the first ten pages, the hatcheling will need at last six month to be adult…

You do realize not all dragons are alike? The nose is supposed to be different, it distinguishes the dragon. And it probably looks deformed for the reason of the scales. As for it’s size; it’s just a cover. Eragon’s cover had an adult Saphira on it even though she was introduced as an egg. Same goes for Thorn; he was introduced as a smaller dragon.
The cover’s represent the last /known/ dragons. They can’t be awesome as little lovable bundles of smoke now can they?

Some already said that he looks like an insect because of the antennae. But those antennae are found in all cover arts so it’s no surprise this dragon’s also got those. Well, it’s quite good.

I think maybe the reason why his scales look like a pinata..is maybe he is a young dragon and it takes time for the scales to “harden”…idk just throwing an idea out there
