Contents

Early Life

Nothing is known about Ajihad's Early Life.

Homeland

Nothing is known about Ajihad's homeland. It is known that he arrived in the Varden years ago with a baby Nasuada at his side, but that is all.

Family

Ajihad had only one daughter: Nasuada. She was his most cherished friend, closest ally, and eventually his successor.

Physical Description

Ajihad is a strong, well-built man with dark skin, and has no hair. In the movie, Ajihad has a black mane of hair that is always pushed back from his face.

Adulthood

Ajihad led the Varden for fifteen years, up until his death, shortly after the battle of Farthen Dûr. He was a brilliant tactician, a brave warrior, and a concerned leader.

The Scarring of Durza's Sword

We know, that at one point and time, Ajihad engaged in battle against Durza the Shade. Apparently, he put a long white scratch on Durza's sword, while trying to cut out his heart.

The Battle of Farthen Dûr

During the Battle of Farthen Dûr, Ajihad fought bravely, slaying many Urgals and Kull. He also relayed orders through the traitorous Twins, which, in retrospect, wasn't the best of ideas, because they lured Eragon away from the fight, and into Durza's trap.

Death

After the Battle of Farthen Dûr, Ajihad was ambushed by a pack stray Urgals, who were under the Twins' control; and was killed.

In The Cycle

Eragon

In Eragon, Eragon and Saphira first met Ajihad, when they arrived at the Varden, after being chased by Kull. They explained the many events since Saphira's hatching. Ajihad sat listening intently, and was most interested about Brom's death. He explains to them about how he fought Durza, a long time ago, and that a shade can only be killed by a thrust to the heart. Anything else will cause them to disappear, and reappear somewhere else.

He also fought bravely, in the struggle to protect Farthen Dûr.

Eldest

In Eldest, Ajihad is ambushed by four Urgals, and is killed. His dying words are to Eragon, who he tells that under no circumstances may he let the Varden fall into chaos.

"Do not underestimate your might, nor falter at his side, because without you he will surely fail." 1000

-Eragon page 417, Ajihad to Saphira, about Eragon

"...We must hold Farthen Dur. Failure will mean the dwarves' downfall, death to the Varden--and eventual defeat for Surda and the Elves. This is one battle we cannot lose." -Eragon page 470, Ajihad to Eragon, Orik, Jormundur, and Arya.

"His skin gleamed the color of oiled ebony. The dome of his head was shaved bare, but a closely trimmed black beared covered his chin and upper lip. Strong features shadowed his face, and grave, intelligent eyes lurked under his brow. His shoulders were broad and powerful, emphasized by a tapered red vest embroidered with great dignity, exuding an intense, commanding air...When he spoke, his voice was strong, confident."
