Synopsis
The Battle of the Burning plains held a grim ultimatum for the Varden: succeed, or die. The y started out early in the morning to try and take the Empire by surprise. They used rags to stop their armor from clanking together. Once the battle was under way the uniform lines of both armies broke up and everyone started fighting in tightly knit groups. During this time , Eragon and Saphira hung back. In the opening period of the battle, Eragon was already a deciding factor. He tok out many of the Empire's mechanisms of war and once the Du Vrangr Gata targeted enemy magicians, he dispatched them. But, despite Eragon's efforts, the men were losing morale. they were so greatly out numbered by the Empire, for every man that fell, there was ten to replace them. So Nasuada told Eragon and Saphira to go ... eh..."slaughter " some of the Empire's troops. Eragon agreed and so Rider an d dragon used their greatest weapon: the power to merge their souls. Heaps of men died that hour. But, they were still out numbered. But not for long! Soon Hrothgar and his army of dwarves arrived. Finally, it seemed the tables had turned. But then blood-red dragon swooped out of the sky. The rider then Killed Hrothgar with one fireball and soared upwards. Enraged, Eragon and Saphira followed in hot pursuit. There then ensued a n epic battle of the skies, whose details I will not describe. Then both dragons landed on a plateu where, displaying extraordinary magical strength, he healed his dragon and lifted Eragon and Saphira into the air. He then released them and dueled Eragon. Eragon would have won, but he was tired. still, he was able to rip off the ride riders helme. it was Murtagh! After watching the twins fall to Roran who had just (timely) arrived, Murtagh explained that Galbatorix hads learned his secret name and now he was a slave for life. He also explained that he and Eragon were brothers sired by Morzan. He then stole Zar'roc, saying he would be far less lenient next time. The Varden won the battle of the Burning plains, but at so high a price that many may ask, was it worth it?
