The official third book of the Inheritance Cycle is called Brisingr, which will be released on September 20th, 2008. Brisingr is the word in the Ancient Language for fire.

Christopher Paolini states that "Brisingr is one of the first words I thought of for this title, and it’s always felt right to me. As the first ancient-language word that Eragon learns, it has held particular significance for his legacy as a Dragon Rider. In this new book, it will be revealed to be even more meaningful than even Eragon could have known".

Synopsis

From Shurtugal.com

Forces collide in Book III of the phenomenally successful Inheritance Cycle. Eragon represents the greatest hope for a better Alagaesia. Can this once simple farm boy rise to become a leader who can unite the rebel forces and defeat the King? Following the colossal battle against the Empire's warriors on the Burning Plains, Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have narrowly escaped with their lives. Still there is more at hand for the Rider and his dragon, as Eragon finds himself bound by a tangle of promises he may not be able to keep, including Eragon's oath to his cousin Roran to help rescue Roran's beloved, Katrina, from King Galbatorix's clutches. But Eragon owes his loyalty to others, too. The Varden are in desperate need of his talents and strength, as are the elves and dwarves. When unrest claims the rebels and danger strikes from every corner, Eragon must make choices - choices that take him across the Empire and beyond, choices that may lead to unimagined sacrifice. Conflict, action, adventure and the devasting death of Roran await readers as Eragon battles on behalf of the Varden while Galbatorix ruthlessly attempts to crush and twist him to his own purposes.

Rich with a thoughtful examination of Eragon's maturing psyche, "Brisingr" explores how Eragon must come to terms with his role as a leader and the moral obligations that weigh heavily upon his young shoulders as a Dragon Rider.

I love the picture, not so happy about the name-earogonfan12

Gah!!!! Everyone's theories about the cover were wrong!!! It's really good though. --I Believe 23:13, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, thats a great cover, really better than the mock version of it. -Heir

It's all because he decided to make a fourth book. I'm sad that there's no new art.-hawk

Hmm. There will probably be new art for the Fourth book. Im guessing it will be the best art yet.-SandorLiki

Ugh...i sure hope so if we have to wait so long!!! -Heir

I reckon the picture and name are really cool, but i am a bit dissapointed about it not being the green dragon, cause i think that the user art that Shurtugal.com put on was really cool.- thenewrider

I want to know about the next book signing. Nod Ybrik!

I wonder why it was called Brisingr... Maybe Oromis gets killed by the spell brisingr. Just a thought... (And yes, that means I think that Oromis and Glaedr will die in this book. Maybe Eragon kills him on accident or is made to by... Galbatorix.

I doubt that will happen, but am really excited about the book and that its going to keep going. I also hope that Christopher decides to keep writing about the world he has created. Not necessarily about Eragon and Saphira, but about other events and characters and things like that. - Jon Clive - 21:16 - 03.09.2008

I love the picture, i wish he would have kept with the 'e theme' for the title. Maybe its called Brisingr because thats Eragon's true name, just a thought.-Nar Garzhvog

I bet Brisingr is his name, like that guy above me said. It seems right for some reason. -Ventanator

Something in my gut says: Brisingr is the name of Brom; the true name of Eragon's true father. -Heir of Eragon

I know your talking about names but here's my theory for the third book: The third dragon will hatch, few months will go by(not sure what happens during then, maybe Eragon bonds with new rider) the green dragon will fall in love with Saphira, BUT, Saphira won't fall in love with greeney. Then there will be the conflict with herself of "Was this how Glaedr felt when I thought I loved him." Even if I'm wrong about that, I strongly believe that Saphira will become pregnant in some early part of the next two books and then will go into "dragon labor" during the big battle/war scenes (which always happen at the end.) One of them, Eragon or Saphira, will want to keep fighting(probably Saph.) while one wants to get to a shelter to lay the eggs(probably Eragon.) Then maybe the sire of her eggs, will try everything to get to her (good or evil) but she'll refuse him and tell him to keep fighting. THIS IS ALL THEORY! -person P.S. What do you think about it?
