History

The Dragon Riders are in Alagaesia. Their former headquarters was on Vroengard, an island to the West of Alagaesia.

The Dragon Riders were an elite warrior class that were the result of peace between the Dragons and Elves. There had been a long and devastating war between the two races until a young elf named Eragon raised a dragon from an egg and united the two races. The connection made when a Rider touches his or her Dragon for the first time was put into order with an agreement between Dragons and Elves. The Humans were later on brought into the agreement. This is the prime reason there has never been a Dwarf Dragon Rider. Dragon Riders fought to keep peace in Alagaesia.

Language

The Dragon Riders use the Ancient Language to control magic. Human dragon riders have to learn the Ancient Language, while elves already know it.

Common Features

Human dragon riders gain elvish features, a process that takes years. Eragon was an exception; the spirit of the Dragon Race at the Blood-Oath Celebration healed him of the wound given to him by Durza, and gave him elvish abilities (quicker reflexes, greater strength and endurance, etc.). This also includes elvish features, such as the classic pointed ears, sharp features, and a certain amount of good looks. All Dragon Riders (so far) have been of either the Elven or the Human race, due to the agreement between Dragons and Elves, to which humans were later added. There has never been a Dwarf Rider. Orik was the very fisrt to fly on a dragon.
