Dûrgrimst Az Sweldn rak Anhûin

This clan originally lived western edge of the Beor Mountains and was among the oldest, richest clans in the dwarven kingdom. However, when Galbatorix and the Forsworn attacked, they killed every member of Az Sweldn rak Anhûin except for their leader Anhûin and her guards. After she died of grief, the clan took the name Az Sweldn rak Anhûin (the Tears of Anhûin) in memory.

Because of these tragic events, the clan became deeply opposed to the dragons. When Eragon and Saphira came to Tarnag, they vowed to oppose him with all of their resources.

Dûrgrimst Fanghur

Five of the clans are named after the five animals unique to the Beor Mountains. Dûrgrimst Fanghur is named after the Fanghur.

Dûrgrimst Ingeitum

Dûrgrimst Nagra

This clan was named after the Nagra.

Dûrgrimst Quan

This clan is the religious order of the dwarves. They are proficient with their double-bladed hûthvir and control the dwarvish temples. The leader of this clan is Gannel.

Dûrgrimst Ragni Hefthyn

The name of this clan means "River Guard". They guard the river Az Ragni from their home of Tarnar. Their leader is Ûndin.

An unnamed clan

The eighth clan is not named in either of the first two books. Nothing is known about it, other than that it exists.
