The Menoa Tree is an ancient tree in the forest of Ellesmera. It is said to have the spirit of a broken-hearted elf. The Agaeti-Blodhren is held there. It is associated with elvish legend and myth, and is a landmark of the capital city and the forest kingdom. Far on the outskirts of the city is the Menoa tree, where the Blood-oath Celebration is held once every century. The Menoa tree is also where the werecat Solembum told Eragon that if he needed a weapon, "when the time comes and you need a weapon, look under the roots of the Menoa tree."(chapter 27, The Witch and the Werecat)

My theory regarding the Menoa Tree is that when the elf smith, Rhunon, saw Zar'roc, her wanting to make another sword was awoken. She couldn't help it, and she made another Dragon Rider sword. She made a sword that was the color of Saphira's scales, and when she finished it, she realized that she had broken her oath. She ran to the Menoa tree in her despair and put the sword under its roots. Then in Book 3 Eragon finds it.

- yes, that would be cool, but wouldn't it take a long time to make a sword? the time between when eragon met her and book three isnt very long espcially by elf standards. also the rider has to name the sword to have the symbol enscribed upon it and eragon didnt exactly say "well if you change your mind, i would name my sword ______." or anything . . .

Fine I'll try to prove my theory- 1) Rhunon is a master blacksmith and has been one for many, many years. The time from when Rhunon met eragon until the time he will go back should be enough for a blacksmith of her level to make the sword. 2) I think Rhunon will make a symbol of the gedway-ingasia for Eragon's symbol.

This theory is impossible she swore in the ancient language never again to make a weapon. I belive that everyone is overthinking this the sword will be under the roots of the Menoa tree Eragon will find it and use it it will have a green gem. Once he saves the third egg he will give it to that rider. After killing Galbatorix he will find Broms sword in his possesion and will use it. His symbol can not be the Gedway-Ingesia because it was not the other riders symbol.

-On page 306 in Eldest, eragon figures out that the menoa tree is alive upon making mental contact with it. Arya then explains how the menoa tree bacame so famous and legendary. -There was once an elven woman named Linnea who was alive three years before the war with the dragons, the time in which the elves became immortal. Linnea had grown old without ever having a mate,or children. Before long she met a young man who captured her heart with words of love. For a long time they were happy together; that is until the toung elf started to desire to love someone more of his own age. He then set his eyes upon a young woman, and they were happy together for a time; until Linnea discovered this unknown relationship. After finding him with the woman, she killed him in her fury. Not able to live with herself she went to the oldest tree in Du Weldenvarded, and sang to it, pledging all alligiance to it in the song. She sang to the tree for three days and nights, and when she was finished she had become one with the tree. Thus she has been able to keep watch over the forest of Du Weldenvarden, and the Menoa tree was created. -To see a theory of what the weapon will be under the menoa tree click on this: [1]

When Eragon, Saphira and Arya are first seen by the elves in Du Weldenvarden, the elves sing a song which includes the line: 'Menoa's scion now is safe this night' Scion means decendant, or root. Maybe the weapon in the roots of the meoa tree isn't literally underneath it, as Eragon asked Arya. Maybe he has to follow the lineage of the elf who became the tree.

The scion of menoa is Arya. When Nari sang his son on page 168 of eldest,he says that menoa's scion now is safe this night, then on the first line of the next stanza, he says that "A forest child we lost to strife; A sylvan daughter caught by life!" He is talking about Arya, who the elves thought lost, but now she is back safe in Du Weldenvarden.
