The Stone of Broken Eggs is a place where dragons of old mated and hatched their eggs. During Du Fyrn Skulblaka (the Dragon War) the elves surprised the dragons and shattered all of the eggs on the Stone with magic.
Overview
The Stone is elevated so that elves, humans, and dwarves cannot walk to the summit. The outer walls of the Stone, however, could have been used as a means of reaching the top because during the Dragon War they might be un-"weathered." During the Dragon War it was truly a place where dragons belonged or could visit. The only way non-dragon races can reach the top of the Stone, by the time of Eldest, is through the use of magic or on dragon-back.
Role in the Books
Eldest
Saphira and Glaedr train frequently together at the Stone and a short fight occurs between them when Saphira tries to woo Glaedr. During the fight both Glaedr and Saphira are injured. After the fight Eragon soothes Saphira by talking to her for a while. Eragon rides the elven horse which he rode from Silthrim, named Folkvir, to the Stone then reaches the summit by saying the word "Up!" in the Ancient Language which lifts him up and sustains the feel of gravity around Eragon. After Eragon's talk with Saphira, they leave together- Eragon on Saphira's back.
