History
The dwarves are an ancient race who believe that they were the first in Alagaësia. They are a proud and strong people, with a long history of wars. The dwarves mostly live in cities in the Beor Mountain range, with their capital being the city of Tronjheim in the massive mountain Farthen Dûr. There has never been a dwarvish dragon rider, as dwarves were not included in the original spell that founded the riders.
The dwarves believe that there are several all powerful gods, each representing different things. They are alone in this belief however, as the other races of Alagaësia are dubious of their beliefs. More detail on the dwarves religious beliefs can be found here.
About the Dwarves
The dwarves look like shorter, stouter versions of humans. They are a sturdy people and often muscular and strong. Male dwarves usually have long, braided beards. Dwarves are exceptional miners and smiths, and fight with battleaxes, warhammers, urgal-horn bows and other brutal weapons. Dwarves DO use magic, an example of this is the red magic lamps used to light the caves of the dwarves, and to ease the transition from darkness into daylight( which could cause blindness if the eyes aren't given this transitional phase). Another example of dwarven magic is in the Battle of the Burning Plains, when the dwarven magicians died in an attempt to stop murtaghs energy bolt from striking King Hrothgar.

For more information, see the main article: Dwarven Clans
The dwarves have thirteen clans, each with a clan leader, or Grimstborith. Sometimes the clans are friendly towards each other, sometimes hostile. Dwarves and the Other Races
Dwarves are a proud race, and are usually respected by the humans as allies. The elves are less friendly, but still maintain a position as the dwarves' allies. While the dwarves let the Varden use Tronjheim and Farthen Dûr as a base for their operations, they are not all actually members of the Varden, and answer to their king, not to the leader of the Varden.
